Synopsis: Bangladeshi women were arrested at Agartala railway station for crossing the India-Bangladesh border without valid documents. Authorities believe they were planning to travel further to Kolkata and Mumbai. Security forces suspect the involvement of human traffickers and are currently investigating the case.
In a joint operation, Indian security agencies stopped an illegal entry attempt at Agartala railway station. Two women from Bangladesh were arrested by the Government Railway Police (GRP), Railway Police Force (RPF), and Border Security Force (BSF) while trying to travel to Kolkata.
The two women, identified as Nadia Akhter Mim (19) and Rupali Akhter (38), are from Barisal and Manikganj districts of Bangladesh. According to the GRP officer-in-charge, Tapas Das, they were caught on Thursday and presented before the court the next day.
Both women had no legal travel documents. It is believed they had plans to go to Mumbai after reaching Kolkata. Authorities have filed cases under the Passports Act, Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and other Indian laws related to illegal immigration.
Security forces are now trying to find out if any human trafficking network helped the women cross the border. Some information has already been found, but the police have not shared details yet to protect the investigation.
This is not the first time such an incident has happened. Several people from Bangladesh and the Rohingya community have been caught trying to enter India illegally, especially after recent political changes in Bangladesh.
The arrest highlights the increasing security concerns at the India-Bangladesh border, especially in Tripura and other northeastern states.
