Lieutenant General Rajiv Ghai, Director General of Military Operations has led the media briefing along with Air Marshal AK Bharti, Director General Air Operations, Vice Admiral AN Pramod, Director General Naval Operations, and Major General SS Sharda
In a strong and precise response to the Pahalgam terror attack, India launched Operation Sindoor on May 7, 2025—an unprecedented military operation that led to the elimination of over 100 terrorists, including high-value masterminds of past terror incidents like the IC-814 hijacking and the Pulwama bombing.
Why Operation Sindoor Was Launched in a Media Brief: DGMO and Air Marshal AK Bharti
The trigger for this operation was the brutal attack in Pahalgam on April 22, 2025, which claimed the lives of 26 innocent civilians. In response, Indian defense forces acted swiftly and decisively, launching targeted strikes across nine confirmed terror launchpads in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoJK).
“The operation was a direct retaliation for the Pahalgam attack,” said DGMO Lt. Gen. Rajiv Ghai during a joint briefing with senior defense officials.
What Was Targeted?
India’s intelligence agencies worked in close coordination to identify and verify active terror camps. These included major hubs run by Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) and Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT)—two groups responsible for some of the most heinous attacks on Indian soil.
Among the targeted locations were:
- JeM’s headquarters in Bahawalpur
- LeT’s training camp in Muridke, infamous for training 26/11 attacker Ajmal Kasab, told in a media briefing by Air Marshal AK Bharti and other defence officials.
Key High-Value Targets Eliminated
Over 100 terrorists were neutralized, including top-level figures such as:
- Yusuf Azhar – Linked to IC-814 hijacking
- Abdul Malik Rauf and Mudasir Ahmed – Involved in the Pulwama blast
These eliminations mark a significant victory in India’s ongoing counter-terrorism efforts.

Precision Without Collateral Damage
One of the most notable aspects of Operation Sindoor was the Indian military’s commitment to avoiding civilian casualties. With the use of precision air-to-surface guided munitions, the forces ensured that only verified terror infrastructure was hit.
“Our aim was clear—neutralize terror, not civilians,” emphasized Air Marshal AK Bharti, who also presented video evidence of missile impacts at the Muridke camp.
India’s Armed Forces Worked in Perfect Sync
The operation showcased a coordinated effort by all branches of the Indian military:
- The Indian Air Force executed pinpoint airstrikes.
- The Indian Navy supported with precision-guided weapons.
- The Indian Army played a crucial ground-based role in strategic planning and intelligence.
Pakistan’s Reckless Response
Shortly after the strikes, Pakistan responded with unprovoked attacks across the Line of Control (LoC), tragically hitting civilian areas and religious sites like Gurudwaras, resulting in further loss of innocent lives.
“Their response was erratic and revealing of their desperation,” said DGMO Ghai.
Ironically, this retaliation came just hours after Pakistan proposed a ceasefire, which it went on to violate the same evening.
A Bold and Calculated Operation
Operation Sindoor stands as a milestone in India’s modern military history—a blend of precision, intelligence, and restraint. While the mission dealt a heavy blow to terror networks, it also reaffirmed India’s stand: terror will be met with force, but not at the cost of innocent lives.
As tensions in the region remain high, India’s successful execution of Operation Sindoor sends a clear message: the nation will protect its citizens and sovereignty, no matter the cost.
