Agartala | Thursday, December 25, 2025: The Agartala Railway Station continues to be a focal point for security agencies as the Government Railway Police (GRP) and Railway Protection Force (RPF) successfully intercepted another group attempting to travel further into India illegally. In a coordinated operation on Wednesday evening, three Bangladeshi nationals arrested Agartala station were taken into custody along with an Indian tout who was facilitating their journey.

This latest arrest highlights the ongoing challenge of illegal infiltration across the porous India-Bangladesh border and the heightened vigilance of the railway police during the holiday season.

Acting on a specific tip-off, the GRP personnel intensified their patrolling near the platform and ticket counters. The team spotted a group acting suspiciously while trying to board a long-distance train. Upon being questioned, the three individuals failed to produce any valid Indian identity documents or passports.

Subsequent interrogation revealed that they had crossed the international border recently with the help of a local facilitator. The Bangladeshi nationals arrested Agartala station have been identified as residents of various districts in Bangladesh. Along with them, the police apprehended an Indian national who was acting as their “agent” or tout, promising them safe passage to other Indian cities in exchange for money.

The Growing Network of Illegal Touts

The arrest of the Indian tout is a significant development. Security agencies have noted that these local agents play a crucial role in providing logistical support, temporary shelter, and fake documents to those crossing the border illegally.

According to GRP sources, this network often targets the Agartala Railway Station as a primary exit point to avoid the high-security checks on the national highways. However, the increased presence of CCTV surveillance and undercover officers has led to a string of successful interceptions in December 2025.
