17th May 2025: During the inauguration of 40 TLPD Milk Plant – Dairy Unit II at Bamutia, West Tripura, the announcement made to push for dairy and fisheries boom in Tripura. This 40 TLPD milk plant is now became largest dairy in North East India.

In a strategic move aimed at strengthening rural livelihoods and boosting the agri-economy of Tripura, the Union Minister for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, and Panchayati Raj, Rajiv Ranjan Singh, announced that a central expert team will visit the state in July 2025. The team will work closely with the state administration to chart out a comprehensive roadmap for milk and fish production self-sufficiency. Announcement made during inauguration of Gomati’s 2nd unit, 40 TLPD milk plant situated in Bamutiya constituency, Tripura.

Empowering Tripura’s Rural Economy

Recognizing Tripura’s vast untapped potential in the dairy and fisheries sectors, the Centre has decided to send a team comprising experts from the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB), the National Fisheries Development Board (NFDB), and the Department of Animal Husbandry.

“These sectors can transform Tripura’s rural economy,” said Union Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh, adding that discussions with Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha will be held in June to lay the groundwork for this transformative initiative.

Minister Singh highlighted the success of Tripura’s artificial insemination efforts in livestock, with over 2.7 lakh procedures carried out, leading to the birth of approximately 50,000 calves—a remarkable milestone in strengthening the state’s dairy capacity.

He further credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership for India’s consistent 6% annual growth in milk production, positioning India as the world’s largest milk producer.

Strategic Discussions for Fish Farming

During the program, the Union Minister also discussed about opportunities in fish farming and animal husbandry in presence of ARDD Minister Sudhangshu Das and Tripura’s CM.
