Strengthening Northeast’s Power Sector: Manohar Lal Chairs Regional Power Conference in Gangtok
Union Power Minister Manohar Lal, alongside Sikkim CM Prem Singh Tamang, led a high-impact Regional Power Conference in Gangtok, focusing on boosting hydropower generation, enhancing transmission, and expediting electrification across the Northeast.
In a significant move to energize the Northeast’s power infrastructure, Union Power Minister Manohar Lal chaired a crucial Regional Power Conference in Gangtok, Sikkim, today. Joined by Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang and key energy ministers from the region, the meeting centered on reinforcing the power sector’s backbone — from generation to last-mile distribution. Tripura Power Minister Shri Ratan Lal Nath was present in the conference and represented the state.
Regional Power Conference highlights hydropower’s untapped potential, the discussions delved into strategies to strengthen transmission and distribution systems. Special focus was given to fast-tracking central schemes like the North Eastern Region Power System Improvement Project (NERPSIP) and the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS) to ensure reliable, quality power for all.
The conference also reviewed the Comprehensive Scheme for Strengthening Transmission & Distribution Systems specifically for Sikkim, encouraging all states to expedite household electrification efforts under RDSS for seamless last-mile connectivity.
Minister Manohar Lal emphasized that, under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the government remains steadfast in its mission to power every home and fuel the Northeast’s energy-driven growth.
This pivotal gathering marks another step forward in realizing the region’s vast potential and ensuring sustainable, resilient energy solutions for the future.
