Tripura 360°, June 16, 2025: A major power outage brought life to a standstill in Teliamura on Monday evening after a severe fault occurred in the 11 KV Ompi BSF feeder at the Gamai Tilla Power Substation. The disruption struck around 6:30 p.m., throwing the entire Teliamura and Mungiakami region into complete darkness.
According to local sources, the fault was so intense that it directly impacted critical equipment inside the substation. The substation manager immediately rushed to the spot and initiated emergency restoration work. Despite the team’s swift response, it took more than 4 hours to restore power completely.
Teliamura Power Disruption : What Went Wrong?
While the exact reason behind the fault is still under investigation, preliminary signs point to possible vegetation interference with the power lines. It is also noted that lack of routine maintenance by the local subdivisions and aging equipment inside the substation might have contributed to the breakdown.
Damaged Infrastructure
Multiple internal components at the Gamai Tilla substation were reportedly damaged, making the restoration process more challenging. There is an urgent need for upgrading aging equipment and clearing surrounding vegetation to prevent such large-scale outages in the future.
Power Restored, But Concerns Remain
Though electricity has now been restored in the affected areas, this incident highlights serious gaps in infrastructure maintenance and preventive measures. Local residents have raised concerns about frequent disruptions and the slow pace of modernization in Teliamura’s power infrastructure.
