On the occasion of Earth Day, Tripura Chief Minister and Education Minister Prof. Dr. Manik Saha reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to delivering quality education and environmental awareness. Tripura CM Dr. Manik Saha Emphasizes Quality Education and Eco-Awareness on Earth Day. Speaking at the inauguration of the new Amtali H.S. School building in presence of Dy. Speaker and MLA Suryamani nagar constituency, Sri Ram Prasad Paul , CM announced that 123 new school infrastructures will be developed, along with appointments of teaching and non-teaching staff.
Dr. Saha also virtually inaugurated buildings of Henry Derozio Academy, Gandhigram H.S. School, Taltala H.S. School, Indranagar High School, and Nandan Nagar H.S. School.
Highlighting initiatives for girls’ empowerment, Dr. Saha shared that sanitary napkin vending machines have been installed in 455 schools at a cost of Rs. 1.31 crore. In addition, 1.42 lakh girls from 2,058 schools have received self-defense training under the Rani Laxmibai Self Defense Program.
Addressing environmental concerns, Dr. Saha said, “Earth is the only planet where people live, and we must protect it by focusing on flora and fauna.” He stressed the importance of trees and shared that the state Education Department launched a QR code campaign from April 22–30 to help students learn about trees through technology.
He pointed out that education must evolve with time. “We must move beyond traditional teaching methods and adopt digital tools to prepare the next generation,” he said, referencing initiatives like smart classes, NCERT content, and the Vande Bharat channel.
Dr. Saha noted that the National Education Policy 2020 has been implemented in Tripura for the first time in 34 years. For the upcoming financial year, 30 more schools will be developed, with 67 under secondary and 56 under elementary education. “Education is our top priority because no country or state can progress without it,” he concluded.
