In a bold step toward improving road safety and encouraging public responsibility, Tripura’s Transport Minister Sushanta Chowdhury chaired a high-level meeting on Friday to fast-track the implementation of the Rah-Veer Scheme—a nationwide Good Samaritan initiative launched on April 21, 2025.
The meeting was held at the conference hall of Sonartori, State Guest House in Agartala. It brought together senior transport officials and department heads. They reviewed ongoing projects. They also ensured swift action on this life-saving scheme.
💡 What is the Rah-Veer Scheme?
The Rah-Veer Scheme is a visionary program introduced by the Government of India to incentivize bystanders to help road accident victims during the critical “Golden Hour”—the first hour after a traumatic injury when prompt medical attention can save lives.
Under this scheme:
- ₹25,000 reward + government recognition is given to individuals who transport seriously injured accident victims to hospitals.
- A person can be recognized up to 5 times a year.
- 10 top Rah-Veers across India will receive ₹1 lakh annually.
🚑 “Saving Lives is Everyone’s Responsibility”
Minister Chowdhury emphasized the importance of public involvement:
“Saving lives is a shared duty. Through this scheme, we are instilling a sense of urgency, compassion, and civic responsibility among the citizens of Tripura.”
He also assured that legal fears should no longer be a barrier, as the scheme includes provisions to protect and reward Good Samaritans.
🔍 Transparent & Fair Execution
The scheme will be implemented with strict verification procedures, involving:
- Police reports
- Hospital validations
- Oversight by District Evaluation Committees
- Digital tracking via PFMS (Public Financial Management System)
A State-Level Monitoring Committee has also been formed to ensure accountability and transparency.
📣 Spreading the Word
Tripura’s Transport Department is actively launching awareness drives in collaboration with hospitals, police departments, and media partners to spread the scheme’s message far and wide.
Citizens are being urged to adopt the powerful motto:
“Your one phone call or brave decision can save someone’s entire future.”
🌟 A Model for the Nation?
Experts believe the Rah-Veer Scheme could be a game-changer in India’s battle against road accident fatalities. With Tripura’s proactive leadership and community spirit, the state could soon become a national role model in embracing a culture of care, courage, and quick action.
