In a recent and significant event, the revered Tripura Sundari Temple, located in Gomati district of Tripura, opened its 16 donation boxes on 24th April 2025, Thursday morning—two months after they were last opened. What surprised the temple officials was the presence of foreign currencies among the donations, including US dollars, Kuwaiti dinars, Bangladeshi taka, and Nepalese rupees.

A special 16-member team, formed by the Gomati District Magistrate’s office, was assigned to open and count the donations. The process started early in the morning and was expected to continue until 7 or 8 pm, with tight security deployed to ensure everything runs smoothly.

A temple official stated, “The money collected will be used for the upkeep of the temple. This includes regular maintenance, renovation work, and performing daily rituals and religious events.”

Tripura Sundari Temple, considered one of the 51 sacred Shakti Peethas in Hinduism, is a spiritual landmark that attracts thousands of devotees from across India and abroad. The discovery of foreign currencies shows a rise in international visitors and their faith in Tripura Sundari Devi.

An official commented, “The foreign currency donations reflect the temple’s rising global recognition. This is a sign that the temple is slowly becoming a major international spiritual and tourist destination.”

This development not only emphasizes the temple’s religious significance but also presents an opportunity to promote it as a global pilgrimage hub, which could boost tourism in Tripura.

As the counting continues, temple authorities and local administration are hopeful that these offerings will help further enhance the temple’s facilities and provide a better experience to devotees worldwide.
